Spoken English Structure – Go Past – Walk Past – Drive Past

by Vocabgram

The English language is filled with words that can function as multiple parts of speech. One such word is “past,” which can function as an adverb when used to describe an action that has occurred and is now finished. In this blog post, we’ll explore how to use “past” as an adverb in various contexts, including “go past,” “walk past,” and “drive past.”

When “past” is used as an adverb, it modifies a verb to indicate that an action has already occurred. For example, when we say “I walked past the store,” we are using “past” as an adverb to describe the completion of the action of walking.

Similarly, “go past” is a common phrase used to describe the act of moving beyond something. For instance, “I drove past the park” indicates that the speaker’s car has already gone beyond the park.

Furthermore, “drive past” is another example of using “past” as an adverb to describe a completed action. When we say “She drove past the school,” we’re using “past” to indicate that the car has already gone beyond the school.
